Gerard Drive Plan
The Town of East Hampton Land Acquisitions and Management Department in coordination with the Nature Preserve Committee is drafting a management plan which covers 43 parcels off and along Gerard Drive acquired by the town in recent decades – mostly through the Community Preservation Fund – 26 of which have been designated as town nature preserves.
This management plan will NOT cover the southernmost preserve areas or Gerard Point itself. The plan is standard for our area and does not implement any restrictions that APC feels will be controversial.
Usage of the areas covered will be limited to “passive recreation” such as walking, bicycling exercise, bird watching, fishing, picnicking etc. Roadside parking will be allowed in areas NOT already prohibited by town signage.
Locally well-known, visible access areas, drives and paths will remain the same. Some issues that are being discussed are a legal boat storage area (or not), the provision of doggie bags and the name for the combined preserve.
If you have any questions or opinions about the above or other issues you think need to be addressed, please get in touch with APC or me as soon as possible as the plan is being formulated in the next few weeks.
Also, for those local residents who have raised concerns about the graffiti on the bridge over the culvert, we are pleased to announce that it has been painted over by the town.
Hope you have a tranquil Thanksgiving.
