APC 2024 Year End Message
The Accabonac Protection Committee (APC) had a productive year in 2024 as we continued to support efforts to protect the water quality of the harbor, lessen the use of pesticides and fertilizers on the surrounding land, and reached out to the community to reaffirm and strengthen our organization’s actions and mission for the future.
Our annual meeting, commemorating 35 years of environmental activism, drew over 100 members and raised close to $20,000. Thanks to those generous contributions we will be able to continue our funding of the Cornell Cooperative Extension water quality monitoring programs in 2025 – and initiate other projects as well.
APC is also excited to announce that we recently won a Peconic Estuary Partnership Mini Grant to help us spread our message to a broader range of the community especially focused on the Hispanic residents of East Hampton.
In 2025, we will continue to collaborate with other groups concerned with local water quality, including ChangeHampton, The Perfect Earth Project, Stony Brook University, Surfriders, Peconic Estuary Partnership, Group for the East End, The Nature Conservancy and the Cornell Cooperative Extension. We will also work with the East Hampton Land Acquisitions Department as they conserve properties through the Community Preservation Fund (CPF) process.
In the new year, we will update the community on the results of the water quality monitoring projects that took place in 2024 and announce, in more detail, the events and projects planned for next spring.
In the meantime, we wish you a peaceful and happy holiday season and we hope that you will continue to participate next year as we continue our important work to protect and preserve our beautiful Accabonac Creek. Our heartfelt thanks to all of you who have contributed to APC’s success this year!
For those of you, who have not already donated, please consider an end of the year contribution. APC is a grass roots organization led by volunteers. We have no paid staff. If you would like to be part of the solution, please join us. This kind of environmental action is as local as it gets.
Thank you for reading this and caring about the Harbor.
