Accabonac Protection Committee

On May 16, our president,  Patrice Dalton, informed us that she was leaving our organization after four years of exemplary service.  During her tenure, the organization initiated an unprecedented program of community education  as well as extensive cooperation with several governmental and environmental  organizations to monitor and improve Accabonac Harbor. The results have been impressive. The waters of the Harbor are being monitored extensively.  Sources of pollution have been identified. With our […]

January is the month to plan this year’s garden. Thought I’d share a video of Mica Marder’s pollinator garden. Mica is joined by Tamson Yeh of the Cornell Cooperative Extension on a beautiful summer day in 2021. I introduced them and they really hit it off, looking at flowers and insects. A nice way to escape the winter and also imagine how a pollinator garden could work […]

Dear APC Members:  It is with some sadness that I inform you that it is time for me to leave APC. I joined the APC board in 2018, became President in 2019. The APC has evolved in this time and I have enjoyed being part of this movement toward identifying and funding technical solutions to enhance water quality, and increased outreach and education events. There were challenges […]

Please join us at the Parking Lot at Louse Point Beach on May 20th at 9 am to clean up the beach. Should be a beautiful day on Saturday. Be sure to protect yourself from ticks and the sun. I find spraying my clothing with Repel or a similar product helps and it lasts for several weeks. Look forward to seeing you! Best Regards,Patrice Dalton, President

Dear APC Members, Earth Day 2023 is April 22nd. A relatively new holiday, it honors a  belief that we can work with nature. Wood Tick Island The impetus was Rachel Carson’s book “Silent Spring”. She described a mythical town in which nature withered due to pesticides. It was frightening.  Her knowledge of science and her ability to write to a general audience, got the message out. Notably, she […]

Accabonac Protection Committee composed and mailed postcards in our five-part series “What you do on your property matters”. The five postcards have been mailed to all property owners in the Accabonac Watershed. Please look for them in your mail. We think you will find the suggestions and illustrations useful.

Welcome Spring! Dear Accabonac Protection Committee Members, Accabonac Harbor seems ready to shake off winter and head into Spring. On a walk at Louse Point Sunday evening, saw a very large group (hundreds) of hungry Gannet’s diving for their dinner.  The Stormwater runoff and revegetation project the Town of East Hampton completed in the Louse Point parking area is a wonderful enhancement. Thanks to Kim Shaw, Mellissa Winslow and […]
