Make a Difference with a Gift to the Accabonac Protection Committee
As we close out 2019, let’s take a moment to celebrate the beautiful, fragile corner of nature known as Accabonac Harbor.
In 2019, the Accabonac Protection Committee sponsored educational Forums for residents and visitors to ensure a lasting legacy of a healthy salt marsh and harbor, sustainable water resources and a community dedicated to protection and conservation. We are happy about the community engagement at the Forums at Ashawagh Hall. Forums where scientists shared knowledge about the systems of Accabonac Harbor and members asked questions. We believe this type of personal interaction encourages responsible stewardship that will contribute to the long term vitality of Accabonac Harbor.
The Accabonac Protection Committee supported the Trustees’ efforts to recruit sufficient testers for the Methoprene Reduction Program. This Program allowed the County to reduce the number of acres treated in Accabonac Harbor from 2500 in 2016 to a very small area in 2019.
The nesting pair of Bald Eagles at Accabonac Harbor was a very exciting surprise for all of us. In fact, a bald eagle was observed by birdwatchers preparing for the Christmas Birdcount. They were positioned at Louse Point last weekend and spotted an adult bald eagle in flight near Cartwright Island. A hopeful sign we that we can make a difference!
The APC is an independent, not for profit that brings together active voices for a healthy salt marsh and harbor. We are a 5013c. Please support the APC by donating on line or sending a check. Your donations will make a big difference.
Happy New Year!
