Message from the President – December 2019
Thank you for making 2019 a productive and rewarding year. We all cherish Accabonac Harbor; for many of us, it why we choose to live here. Accabonac Harbor is fragile, recovering from past damage and vulnerable to future damage. It is important that we act to preserve and restore Accabonac Harbor.
In 2019 your membership supported the following:
- APC hosted three Forums on topics about the health of the Accabonac Harbor. Key scientific researchers presented at these well-attended Forums. The Forums are a great way to reach people who live here both seasonally and year-round about what we can all do to safeguard Accabonac Harbor. Thanks to your membership, these forums are free of charge.
- Collaborated with the Suffolk County Department of Health and the Town of East Hampton on sampling for larval mosquitos. The County was able to reduce the number of acres treated from 2500 in 2016 to only a few acres in 2019 due to the sampling protocol made possible using volunteers
- Participated in the Fisherman’s Fair and the Town’s Eco day.
- Organized a Q&A session on the Septic Improvement Program with speakers from the Town and County
- Collaborated with Concerned Citizens of Montauk on water quality, sampling for the bacteria enterococcus in local waters.
- Hosted beach clean-up days
- Adopted Louse Point and Gerard Roads
None of this would be possible without your memberships and generous donations. We hope you will continue your support in 2020 as we work to protect Accabonac Harbor for generations to come. You can renew your membership now for 2020, as well as make donations our website.
Wishing you peace and joy for the holidays.
