Happy New Year 2019! from the Accabonac Protection Committee
Happy New Year! Please help us make 2019 a great one for APC!
As we turn toward 2019, APC asks you one final time this holiday season to please consider joining us as an active member with annual dues of $20. We had excellent progress in 2018 and with your support we aspire to so much more in 2019! Our organizational restructuring made it possible for APC to efficiently target projects that positively impact our scenic salt-water harbor and marshlands. We are looking forward to significant new projects and events in 2019. Please support the APC mission and help us achieve our goals!

2018 Accomplishments
On the marshland, along with the Town Trustees, the Nature Conservancy, Cornell Cooperative Extension and other local environmental organizations APC:
- Promoted a mosquito larva-sampling program that resulted in dramatic reductions of pesticide spraying this summer.
- Supported projects in Pussy’s pond, the headwaters of Accabonac Harbor identifying sources of nutrient and waste water pollution. As a result, the Spring School embarked on the construction of a state of the art septic system that will significantly reduce contaminates in the harbor.
With our educational outreach program, we organized three forums that attracted overflowing audiences at Ashawagh Hall:
- The Health of the Harbor
- Ticks: Facts Fiction and Fantasy?
- Our Drinking Water: From The Ice Age to Our Taps
In each of these events we brought scientists together with our local officials and community to inform, discuss and debate important issues facing our wetlands and the ecosystem of eastern Long Island.
We have so much more planned for 2019 and your $20 membership helps us do so much. We appreciate you’re membership and look forward to what we will accomplish together.
Thank you,
Francesca Rheannon, President
